After five successful conferences, the Croatian Agroeconomic Society (HAED) is proud to announce the sixth consecutive international scientific and professional conference entitled Innovations and Agribusiness, which will focus on the key topic of “Knowledge and Technology Transfer“.
Agriculture is more than an economic sector, it contributes to sustainability goals such as social wellbeing, ecosystem health and food security. According to the European Environment Agency, despite significant investment in the Common Agricultural Policy and other relevant European Union policies, agriculture continues to contribute to biodiversity loss, excessive water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, abandonment of rural areas and the loss of rural heritage, posing challenges for Europe. These challenges are becoming increasingly apparent and require the attention of agricultural producers.
Food production and the resilience of the food system are directly dependent on natural resources and processes and are exposed to climate change and pollution. Reducing these negative environmental impacts and adapting will be necessary to ensure food security, preserve agricultural land and improve farmers’ livelihoods. Farming and food systems also benefit people and the environment, including by sequestering carbon in soil and vegetation, conserving habitats and wildlife, and using more efficient technologies, social innovation and circular economy practices.
Innovations and Agribusiness, through the theme of the conference “Transfer of knowledge and technology”, emphasizes the importance of transferring new knowledge, technologies and practices in the agricultural sector. This process is key to improving agricultural production, increasing the competitiveness of farmers, making rural communities sustainable and ensuring a stable and high-quality food supply. Knowledge and technology transfer in agribusiness can include various aspects such as the development and introduction of innovations in agriculture through support programs such as funding programs and incubators, knowledge transfer through education and training of farmers in new methods and technologies are an important part of knowledge transfer. Cooperation between sectors by linking farmers with research institutions, universities, companies and other relevant actors enables the exchange of knowledge and experience and facilitates adaptation to new technologies.
The aim of these meetings is to promote the exchange of ideas, experiences and best practices between experts, farmers, researchers and other relevant actors in order to improve the productivity, sustainability and competitiveness of the agricultural sector.
The aim of the meeting of scientific experts is to bring together stakeholders in the agri-food sector, from producers to end consumers, in one place, including scientists, consultants and representatives of the national government. The meeting will enable the exchange of knowledge, experiences and ideas between participants to create a successful and sustainable agribusiness based on innovation. A “project section” will be held as part of the meeting, with the opportunity to present current projects on posters or orally.
Papers presented at the scientific-professional conference will be published in the journal Agroeconomia Croatica, ISSN 1333-2422, and abstracts in the Book of Abstracts of the Conference published by the Croatian Agroeconomic Society.
