After six successful conferences, the Croatian Agricultural Society (HAED) is proud to announce the sixth consecutive international scientific and professional conference entitled Innovations and Agribusiness, which will focus on the key topic of “Mediterranean agriculture and agroturism“.

Agriculture is more than an economic sector, it contributes to sustainability goals such as social wellbeing, ecosystem health and food security. According to the European Environment Agency, despite significant investment in the Common Agricultural Policy and other relevant European Union policies, agriculture continues to contribute to biodiversity loss, excessive water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, abandonment of rural areas and the loss of rural heritage, posing challenges for Europe. These challenges are becoming increasingly apparent and require the attention of agricultural producers.

Food production and the resilience of the food system are directly dependent on natural resources and processes and are exposed to climate change and pollution. Reducing these negative environmental impacts and adapting will be necessary to ensure food security, preserve agricultural land and improve farmers’ livelihoods. Farming and food systems also benefit people and the environment, including by sequestering carbon in soil and vegetation, conserving habitats and wildlife, and using more efficient technologies, social innovation and circular economy practices.

Innovations and Agribusiness, through the theme of the conference “Mediterranean agriculture and agroturism“, emphasizes the importance of new green technologies in Mediterranean agriculture, and the importance of agroturism in the family farm business. Mediterranean agriculture faces various challenges such as pronounced climate change, problems with the implementation of innovations in production sistems, circular economy, demands of the modern market, consumers as well as visitors to agritourism farms, and legislation.

By connecting all stakeholders, the scientific community, the economic sector, policy makers, farmers, and the community in general, it is possible to respond to the challenges set and ensure competitive Mediterranean agricultural production and food supply.

The aim of these meetings is to promote the exchange of ideas, experiences and best practices between experts, farmers, researchers and other relevant actors in order to improve the productivity, sustainability and competitiveness of the agricultural sector.

The aim of the meeting of scientific experts is to bring together stakeholders in the agri-food sector, from producers to end consumers, in one place, including scientists, consultants and representatives of the national government. The meeting will enable the exchange of knowledge, experiences and ideas between participants to create a successful and sustainable agribusiness based on innovation. A “project section” will be held as part of the meeting, with the opportunity to present current projects on posters or orally.

Papers presented at the scientific-professional conference will be published in the journal Agroeconomia Croatica, ISSN 1333-2422, and abstracts in the Book of Abstracts of the Conference published by the Croatian Agroeconomic Society.
