After seven successful conferences, the Croatian Society of Agricultural Economists (HAED) is proud to announce the eighth consecutive international scientific and professional conference entitled Innovations and agribusiness, which will focus on the key topic “Artificial intelligence and smart development of rural areas”.

Rural areas today face numerous challenges, including climate change, depopulation, labour shortages, the need for sustainable management of natural resources, and ensuring the competitiveness of agricultural production. At the same time, the accelerated development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence opens up new opportunities for strengthening resilience, productivity and quality of life in rural communities.

Artificial intelligence is becoming an important tool in the transformation of agriculture and rural development. The application of advanced analytical systems, sensor technologies, satellite data, autonomous systems and digital platforms enables more precise decision-making, more efficient use of resources, reduction of negative environmental impacts and increase of economic sustainability of agricultural farms. Such technologies can contribute to the optimization of food production, soil and water conservation, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and better management of risks caused by climate change.

The smart development of rural areas does not only mean technological innovation, but also the creation of conditions for the development of local communities, the strengthening of entrepreneurship, the development of new business models and the improvement of the quality of life of the population. The digital transformation of rural areas can contribute to the availability of public services, education, health care and new employment opportunities, thereby creating prerequisites for retaining the population and preserving rural heritage.

The theme of the conference “Artificial Intelligence and Smart Development of Rural Areas” is focused on the exchange of knowledge, experiences and examples of good practice related to the application of artificial intelligence, digital technologies and innovative solutions in agriculture and rural development. Special emphasis is placed on connecting science, business, the public sector and local communities in order to encourage the effective application of new technologies and accelerate the transfer of innovations into practice. The conference will include a “project section” where current projects can be presented via posters or orally.

Through an interdisciplinary approach and cooperation of all relevant stakeholders, artificial intelligence can become a powerful driver of sustainable, inclusive and competitive development of rural areas, creating new opportunities for the economy, society and the environment. The conference represents a unique opportunity to promote the agribusiness profession, especially scientific, but also practical results and solutions in the field of agribusiness.

The papers presented at the scientific and professional conference will be published in the journal Agroeconomia Croatica, ISSN 1333-2422, and the abstracts in the Book of Abstracts of the conference published by the Croatian Society of Agricultural Economists.
